St. Charles Sued Over Political Sign Removal

A trustee of the village of St. Charles is suing the community over free speech rights in regards to political signs.

Recently, Police Chief Jason Oliver posted a notice on Facebook detailing how placing political signs in certain areas violate ordinances from the local to the state level. He explains that by Monday, he would be removing political signs, regardless of affiliation, from personal property. Trustee Troy Freed has filed a lawsuit against the village, its president, manager, and police chief, claiming the practice violates the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

A court date for the lawsuit is pending.
