Shiawassee County Bridge Destroyed in Saturday Fire

Fire officials and police in Shiawassee County are investigating the cause of a bridge fire that started Saturday morning.

The fire completely destroyed the Newberry Road wooden railroad trestle bridge over the Canadian National Railway line, causing it to collapse onto the railroad tracks below it. The iconic bridge had been a place of countless memories for area residents, but was also known as a party spot and had caught fire from suspected arson in the past.

Officials say the fire caused delays of trains along the line as far away as Chicago. No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call 989-720-TIPS
