The body of a Flushing woman believed to have been killed by her husband is still missing.
The investigation into Kelly McWhirter’s disappearance and presumed death is ongoing as the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department continues to receive tips in the case. McWhirter and her husband Steve Higgins disappeared on October 14. Higgins was later found by police October 18 and was pulled over in his Ford F-150. During the stop, he shot himself in the head and died from his injuries. Evidence at the couple’s home indicate a violent struggle took place, as well as evidence found in McWhirter’s white 2022 Hyundai Tucson. That vehicle was driven down to Norwalk, Ohio and back to Genesee County during their disappearance, according to police. The search for McWhirter’s body spans from Genesee and Ogemaw counites down to Ohio.
Police are asking anyone with trail cameras or home security systems which may have captured images of either the Tucson or Higgins’ dark colored F-150 to call 9-1-1.
