Saginaw Stepping Up Illegal Fireworks Enforcement

The city of Saginaw is taking a zero tolerance stance against illegal use of fireworks this summer.

The law says loud fireworks and projectiles can only be set off from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. between June 29 and July 4. It is illegal to set them off any time before or after those dates and times. Starting June 24, Saginaw police, fire units and SCENIC will devote more resources to enforcement of the law.

Anyone caught setting off fireworks outside the designated dates and times can be served a $1,000 fine. A city ordinance also prohibits residents from setting off fireworks on public roadways, on the sidewalk or on school and public property like city garages.

Fire officials say if you are going to set off fireworks, make sure you have a water source or fire extinguisher nearby. People can report problems with noisy fireworks by calling 9-1-1 or emailing [email protected].
