Saginaw County Man Dies In Fourth of July Boating Accident in Northern Michigan

A boat crash on a northern Michigan lake claimed the life of a Freeland man on the Fourth of July.

Police say two pontoon boats collided on Houghton Lake, possibly caused by an obstructed view of one another by a third boat in the area. The collision sent two people to Munson Grayling Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. When first respinders arrived, 68-year-old David Dark was in cardiac arrest and died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, though police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
