Saginaw County Juvenile Facility May Have License Revoked

A Saginaw County juvenile detention facility may lose its license following a state recommendation.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has recommended revoking the license of the Wolverine Secure Treatment Center in Buena Vista Township. The facility houses boys and girls ages 12 – 19. A state investigation alleges rules violations including physical abuse and safety violations, which it says are grounds for pulling the facility’s license. Wolverine plans to appeal that action.

In a statement, Wolverine representatives say the center has a long and proven track record of providing safe, essential services and treatment to the children in its care. They are confident an agreement can be reached to avoid displacing the young people in the facility.
