While the State of Michigan has already broken ground for a new psychiatric hospital in Caro, a Flint area group is working to get the $115 million hospital built in Genesee County.

Saginaw County Commission Chairman Michael Webster says the local panel is supporting keeping the project in Caro.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer placed a hold on the project for more review. She had concerns about the new site having adequate resources to support the new hospital.  The state has not said when a final decision would be made.

With 350 employees, the current 105-year-old Caro Center is Tuscola County’s second largest employer.
