People suffering from Parkinson’s can slow the progression of this neurological disease through non-contact boxing-style fitness programs. Stacey Hannah is the owner and head coach of Midland-based Rock Steady Boxing Mid Michigan, which opened in May of last year and currently has 15 “fighter”-clients.
Hannah says the workouts, including heavy and speed bags and calisthenics are dramatically improving Parkinson’s patient’s abilities to live independent lives. She explained they can be geared to people at any level of the disease who can range in age from their thirties up to their nineties.
Hannah said Rock Steady Boxing began 10 years ago in Indianapolis and has spread worldwide. You’ll find the Midland location in the K-Mart Plaza just off US-10 along South Saginaw Road between Jimmy John’s and Yogurt Yeti.
