Rep. Wakeman Loses Reelection Bid in GOP Primary

In State House races, there was an upset in the 97th District as incumbent Rodney Wakeman was unseated by fellow Republican Matthew Bierlein, who also defeated Dean Riley with nearly 60 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s primary. Bierlein will face Democratic challenger Paul Whitney in November.

For the 95th district, Republican Bill G. Schuette will face Democrat Matthew Dawson in November. Schuette beat Midland County Clerk Ann Manary and Charles McGuinness at just over 64 percent of the vote while Dawson defeated Larry Grell at 70 percent.

State Representatives Amos O’Neal (D) of the 94th District and Timmy Beson (R) of the 96th District went unchallenged in yesterday’s primary. O’Neal faces Republican James Shepler and Beson will be challenged by Democrat Kim Coonan in November.
