Saginaw Township police and state police are investigating the shooting of a Saginaw Township police officer. The incident occurred during a traffic stop around 2:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 22 on Tittabawassee Rd. near Bay Rd. Saginaw Township Police Chief Don Pussehl says when Officer Jeff Koenig approached the vehicle, the suspect, 29-year-old Joshua Michael Rosebush of Vassar, shot him in the face. He was able to retreat and call for help. Other officers arrived on the scene and took Koenig to the hospital.

Pussehl says Koenig was initially in critical condition but has since stabilized. He’s been transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center. Koenig is a 16-year veteran of the department.

Police quickly found a stolen Dodge pickup truck on Liberty Road in Kochville Township, between Michigan Ave. and Davis Rd. They also found a second stolen vehicle hours later , a white 2013 Ford F-250 pickup with a license plate number D-B 60703, at the Flint Home Depot on Corunna Road. It has an AIS Construction label on its side.

Rosebush is still at large and is considered armed and dangerous. He is also wanted for several vehicle thefts in Tuscola County earlier in January and is considered a parole absconder from the Michigan Department of Corrections. He was wearing a probation tether, which he has removed. Police in Tuscola and Clare counties are asking residents to be on the lookout, as Rosebush has connections in both counties. Schools in Clare and Saginaw counties were placed in secure mode as a precaution.

Anyone with information about Rosebush is asked to call Saginaw County Central Dispatch or the Saginaw Township Police Department at (989) 793-2310.  Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-422-JAIL (800-422-5245) or online at p3tips.com.
