Police Investigating Child’s Death as Possible Homicide
Police in Carrollton Township are awaiting results of an autopsy in a child’s death.
Police were dispatched Wednesday, July 10 to the 2800 block of N. Michigan Ave. around 8:30 p.m. for a report of a one-year-old with an unknown medical condition. The child wasn’t breathing when they arrived on the scene. Resuscitation efforts by police and paramedics were unsuccessful.
Police arrested the boyfriend of the child’s mother on open murder charges based on evidence collected at the scene. Two other children in the home, four- and eight-year-old boys, were removed and placed in a secure location. Police say the other children had minor injuries. The boyfriend is not the biological father of any of the children. The mother was released to stay with family members.
Carrollton police are conducting interviews to determine what happened. The matter will be forwarded to the Saginaw County Prosecutor’s office to determine if charges will be filed.
