Nurses At McLaren Flint Reject Contract Offer, Planned Strike to Move Forward
Nurses with McLaren Flint Hospital have rejected a contract hospital administration has offered.
The union representing the nurses, AFSCME Local 875, issued a 10-day strike notice about two weeks ago as they bargained for better pay, better nurse to patient ratios and expanded benefits. The hospital, in a previous statement, said they offered a 20 percent pay increase over four years, relief from rising healthcare costs and protecting staffing ratios.
On Friday, the union called off the strike notice as they reviewed the contract, but have since reinstated it after rejecting the agreement. Union officials say the nurses voted overwhelmingly to reject the offer. The new strike notice is for October 28.
The hospital calls the rejection disappointing, though it’s prepared to continue patient care should the strike occur, if both sides cannot come to an agreement before then.
