New Tennis Complex Open In Bay City

A ribbon cutting ceremony opened a new eight court tennis complex on Park Street in Bay City Thursday, June 6 where the former Jefferson Elementary School once stood.

Bay Community Tennis Association President Joe Ricard says the project was roughly a decade in the making after the school closed. Ricard noted neighbors were concerned about what would replace the school while tennis enthusiasts wanted a new facility as other sites around the city were deteriorating.

He added approximately 200 donors contributed money or services to make the facility a reality. Bay City Central High School’s tennis team will practice and play its home matches there with the site opened to the public otherwise.
