New 911 Technology Comes to Gratiot County

Gratiot County is implementing new technology to aid first responders during 9-1-1 calls.

The software program, called Prepared Live, will allow callers to livestream video to the Gratiot County Central Dispatch Authority. It will also allow callers to send multimedia and give central dispatch GPS coordinates from mobile callers in real time. Central dispatch officials say the technology will help emergency personnel respond to situations more effectively. Gratiot County is one of only 100 public safety agencies around the country to receive the program.

Officials say the livestream program is voluntary and does not give authorities access to a callers phone.
