Neeley Drops Eighth Congressional Seat Bid
Flint Mayor Shelden Neeley has announced he is dropping out of the race for the Eighth Congressional seat being vacated by Congerssman Dan Kildee. Kildee announced last fall he will not seek reelection.
Neeley joined the race soon after Kildee’s announcement, but has since made the deceisison not to run after receiving calls for him to remain mayor of Flint. Neeley has also expressed unhappiness with the Democratic Party, saying the party has “stacked the deck in favor of their preferred candidate” but have ignored strong minority candidates. He says he will remain committed to ensuring minority candidates continue to have representation within the party and will remain actively involved in federal races.
State Senator Kristin McDonald-Rivet, former Flint Mayor Matt Collier and Michigan’s State Board of Education President Pamela Pugh remain in the race for the Eighth Congressional seat.
