Bay County Animal Control is changing its name to the Bay County Animal Services and Adoption Center.

County Executive Jim Barcia says the new name is a better description of the agency’s current functions. That includes connecting dogs and cats given up by previous owners or who became strays to new “forever” homes through adoption.

Barcia added the county’s save or live release rate is up to 97%.

He spoke after the proposal passed the County Board’s  Personnel and Human Services Committee Tuesday, July 16.
