Murder Suspect Ruled Incompetent to Stand Trial

A Flint Township man on trial for allegedly killing his roommate has been found incompetent to stand trial.

36-year-old Tarrence Haywood was charged with open murder after the body of 34-year-old Cole Campbell was discovered frozen in the snow on February 1, 2022 near the home shared by the two men. Investigators say Campbell had been killed with a machete. During a pretrial hearing on Thursday, Genesee County Circuit Court Judge Mark Latchana ruled that Haywood was not competent to stand trial based on a doctor’s findings.

Haywood is scheduled to undergo treatment before a review in May.
