Mixed Results In Local School Millages, Bond Proposals

A bond proposal for the Freeland Community School District was rejected by voters in the May 7 election.

The proposal asked for $29.8 million to make improvements to buildings and other facilities with repairs, remodels and upgrades. The final vote for the proposal was 1,188 – 2,315.

In Midland, the Midland Public Schools non-homestead operating millage renewal for 18 mills passed by a wide margin, 6,456 – 1,464.

The Caro Community Schools operating millage renewal also passed 1,394 – 753. However, a bond proposal of $39.6 million for that district to improve and update facilities, enhance security and enhance educational programs was rejected 972 – 1,096.
