Midland Man Arrested with Open Alcohol and Guns in Vehicle
A Midland man is in the Alpena County Jail after allegedly driving drunk while having loaded firearms in his vehicle.
Last Friday, a state police trooper on US-23 at Bare Point Road in Alpena Township saw a Subaru Outback make a U-turn and then blow a tire. The car was driven by 61-year-old Jeffrey Johnson. The trooper went to assist, but noticed Johnson allegedly appeared intoxicated. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests. Police found open cans of beer in the car, along with a .357 caliber handgun in a duffel bag, a rifle in the trunk, a machete and a large knife.
Johnson is charged with driving under the influence, carrying a loaded firearm in a vehicle, having open intoxicants in a vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and possession of a pistol while under the influence. His next court date is November 22.
