Michigan Bans Flavored E-Cigarettes

Michigan has become the second state to ban the sale of flavored e-cigarettes. The action comes as federal health officials investigate the cause of hundreds of serious breathing illnesses in people who have used vaping devices.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced on Sept. 4 that she planned to move toward banning flvaored e-cigarettes, saying the use of sweet flavors and deceptive advertising make e-cigarettes attractive to young people.The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services released details of the ban Wednesday, giving retailers and online sellers two weeks to take them off shelves. The ban includes menthol and mint-flavored products. The state of New York officials approved a similar ban on Tuesday.

Federal health officials have yet to identify a single device or ingredient that may be causing the lung illnesses. President Donald Trump has proposed a federal ban on flavored e-cigarettes and vaping products.
