Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Shooting Woman, Six-Month-Old Child

A Mount Pleasant man will spend more than 33 years in federal prison for killing his significant other.

On November 5, 2022, 39-year-old Jonathan Ashford shot 33-year-old Rosanna Romero multiple times with a nine millimeter handgun while she held her six-month-old daughter. The child was severely wounded but survived her injuries. The incident took place on the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal reservation in Isabella County. According to court documents, Romero was a Native American, while Ashford is not.

He pleaded guilty in July to murder, assault with intent to murder, and discharge of a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.
