Lung Screening Available During Lung Cancer Awareness Month

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month and more hospitals around the region are offering free lung screenings.
The American Lung Association says lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths among men and women over the age of 50, exceeding colon, breast and prostate cancers combined. Most cases occur with no symptoms. If detected early, more than 80 percent of lung cancer deaths can be prevented.
Ascension Saint Mary’s in Saginaw will have no-cost low dose CT screenings from 8:30 to 3 p.m. November 4. My Michigan Medical Center in Midland will offer screenings on November 11 between 9:00 and noon.
Participants must be between 50 and 80 years old, currently smoke or have quit within the last 15 years, and have a 20 pack year smoking history. To register at Ascension, call (989) 493-9610. The number for MyMichigan’s registration is (989) 633-5252.
