Juvenile Lifer Gets New Sentence As an Adult

A man convicted of killing an 83-year-old woman while he was a teen will have his life sentence reduced.

On Wednesday, a Bay County judge ruled the sentence imposed upon then 16-year-old Shawn Commire to have been unconstitutional according to a 2012 Supreme Court decision that prohibited life sentences for anyone under 17. In 2008, Commire and his 19-year-old cousin were convicted of killing Rita Salogar while robbing her home in Bay City.

Commire will be re-sentenced in December.
