Independence Bridge Crash Kills One

One man is dead after driving over a guard rail of the Independence bridge in Bay City this morning.

Around 6:30 a.m., officers from the Bay City Department of Public Safety responded to a report that a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee had driven off the side of the bridge, landing on the ground near it’s northeast side. Traffic had been blocked on the bridge in both directions as emergency responders arrived. Southbound lanes and all but one northbound lane reopened around noon as repairs were made to the guard rail.

A 72-year-old Bay City man identified as Cleophris Glover was extricated from the vehicle and transported to the McLaren Bay Region Emergency Room where he was later pronounced dead.

The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Bay City Department of Public Safety, or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.
