I Support the One 1% Veterans Food Drive Taking Place in Saginaw Township
The annual food drive from the I Support the 1% Veterans Food Pantry is Tuesday, September 7 until 4:00 p.m. at the Kroger grocery store on State St. in Saginaw Township.
This is the seventh year the food drive has taken place and is done in partnership with Kroger and the 919th Army Reserve Unit. This year, the drive comes just days before the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
President and CEO of the food pantry Judy Adams says while the food drive is traditionally about veterans, it’s also important to remember the first responders who put their lives on the line here at home.
“The first responders that we have, our fire, our police, our EMS, they run into danger when everyone else runs away. A thank you once in a while, if you see them out somewhere, extend your hand and thank them because it’s just not done.”
The goal of this year’s drive is to fill military vehicles to help the pantry have enough supplies to last though the winter.
The I Support the 1% Veterans Food Pantry is located at Harry Brown airport and accepts donations all year. For more information, visit their website.
