Housing Shortages Addressed In New Program In Saginaw’s Covenant Neighborhood

In an effort to relieve the statewide housing crisis locally, Covenant Healthcare, the Saginaw-Shiawassee Habitat for Humanity and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) revealed a number of new homes to be built in the Covenant neighborhood on Monday.

Through its Walk to Work program, Covenant HealthCare is supporting employees with down payment assistance, renovation assistance, and engaging current residents in neighborhood revitalization. MSHDA also unveiled a new Employer-Assisted Housing Guide, providing employers with information and connections to help them take an active role in solving the housing crisis. Guide highlights the housing work of the University of Michigan Health System, the Ingham County Land Bank, Short’s Brewery, Whirlpool, Cinnaire, and Mercantile Community Partners. Employers interested in taking an active role in helping solve the housing crisis can learn more at Michigan.gov/employerhousing.

Habitat for Humanity is also seeking volunteers ages 16 and older to help with the finishing details of the homes. No experience is necessary. All training is provided by Habitat staff. Visit sshfh.galaxydigital.com to sign up online.
