Genesee County Clerk Charged with Intimidation, Neglect

Criminal charges have been filed against the Genesee County Clerk.

John Gleason is accused of witness bribing, intimidating or interfering, plus willful neglect of duty. The charges follow a two year investigation into Gleason by the Tuscola County Prosecutors office, which was appointed by the Michigan Attorney General’s office after Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton recused himself from the case. Exact details of the investigation haven’t been made public, though authorities do say the charges stem from two female staff members in the clerk’s office.

Gleason’s arrest last week follows the arrest of the Genesee County Deputy Clerk and elections supervisor Kathy Funk last month. Funk is accused of ballot tampering and misconduct in office while she was the Flint Township Clerk.

Gleason is currently free  bond.
