Gas Leak Prompts Zehnder’s Evacuation

Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth evacuated and closed its restaurant Wednesday following a nearby gas leak.

The leak began after a boring contractor struck a gas line near the restaurant around 4:50 P.M. The building was evacuated as a precaution. Consumers Energy and fire crews were on the scene for several hours, closing a portion of Main Street while they wroked to fix the leak. Gas service was disconnected around 7:40, allowing the road to reopen. Repairs took place through the overnight hours, according to officials.

Zehnders says it plans to reopen during normal business hours Thursday.
