Saginaw city officials are considering converting most of a nearly two mile long stretch of Wickes Park Dr. along the Saginaw River into a multi-use pathway.

But Deputy Director of Public Services Beth London explained residents want to maintain some vehicle access to allow children and teens to reach an upgraded playground and basketball courts. Another idea involves a possible tie-in to the “Iron Belle” bicycle trail running from Detroit’s Belle Isle all the way to the Upper Peninsula.

London spoke after a Wednesday, July 24 public meeting at City Hall on the issue. She says an application could go to the state later this year.
