Football will be on the minds of the Bay area’s young athletes.

Dennis Wirgowski Football Camp organizer, Tom Baird, says over 100 boys and girls will learn the basics of the game, playing in Bay City Central’s Engel Stadium Sunday, August 18.

Baird said the grades 4-8 will learn offensive, defensive and special teams techniques, plus agility tips during the fourth annual camp. Another top Central football player, Trenton Robinson, who went on to the National Football League, will talk to the student athletes.

Wirgowski, who graduated from Central in 1966, was an All-Stater and All-American player in high school before college at Purdue and an NFL career.

He died in 2014. His widow, Bethany, will talk to the campers about suicide and help that’s available to those facing life’s difficulties.
