Friday Afternoon Shooting Victim Dies, Suspect in Custody

An 18-year-old woman shot in the torso in Saginaw Friday afternoon has died, and police are now investigating the case as a homicide. Officers responded to the 400 block of S. 10th about 2:30 p.m., where they found the wounded woman and questioned witnessses. The victim, who’s been identified as Shavonne Barnes, died about 3:00 a.m. Saturday, at Ascension St. Mary’s.

Officers arrested a 29-year-old woman following the shooting. Police will forward a report to the Saginaw County Prosecutor’s office.

This is Saginaw’s 10th homicide of the year.
