Frankenmuth Cheese Haus Mouse Finally Gets A Name
After nearly 50 years the beloved mouse mascot ofthe Frankenmuth Cheese Haus finally has a name. Klaus was the winning name selected this week following a month-long contest held online and at the store, which drew 5,412 suggested names. From those names, four finalists were selected and community voting was held earlier this month. The finalist names included Klaus, Frankie, Charlie and Hans. The store received 10,643 votes to narrow down the top 4 names with Klaus receiving the most votes at 38.1% of the votes.
“We are excited to give our beloved mascot a name at last. The Cheese Haus is a top tourist destination for generations of travelers to Frankenmuth and everyone loves our mouse. He is one of the most photographed landmarks in all of Frankenmuth.” said Judy Zehnder Keller, owner of the Frankenmuth Cheese Haus.
A 50th birthday party for Klaus the Cheese Haus Maus will be held on Monday, April 6. There will be cupcakes in the store, balloons, giveaway cheese necklaces and more to celebrate Klaus’ five decades as an icon in Frankenmuth. Also, in honor of his birthday, all cheeses will be 50% off in the store April 6 through April 9.
In 2018, the Cheese Haus expanded to a new 16,000 square-foot Bavarian-themed building at 545 S. Main St. The new location offers a larger selection of product, space for demonstrations and much more. A second-floor hospitality area will accommodate groups and motor coach travelers when completed. The Cheese Haus features a 60-foot onion tower with figurine movements called a Figurinespiel, which is an animated story about popular cheeses from around the world, and a sundial. With over 270 different cheeses to choose from, there is something for everyone.
