Former Isabella County Corrections Officer Sentenced

A former corrections officer will not have any jail time for assaulting an inmate at the Isabella County Jail in 2020.

According to the Michigan Attorney General’s office, 48-year-old Christopher Cluley pleaded guilty in April for an assault that took place in April 2020. Prosecutors say Cluley was working as the jail’s administrator in charge when he slammed an inmate to the ground during a prisoner cell transfer, causing the inmate to fracture his left knee. Cluley was placed on administrative leave while the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department conducted an internal investigation, which was turned over to the Michigan State Police.

Cluley pleaded no contest to charges of aggravated assault and willful neglect of duty. He was sentenced Thursday to a year of probation, must undergo anger management assessment and classes, and can no longer work in Michigan as a corrections officer.
