Florida Cyclist Killed In Bay County Crash

A cyclist was killed in Bay County Thursday morning after biking across the country from Florida.

Police say an 83-year-old man from Bradenton, Florida was riding an electric bicycle south on Tuscola Road near Russell Road in Merritt Township around 8:30. The man was struck from behind by a white 2018 Ford EcoSport driven by a 57-year-old Bay County man. According to police, the driver claimed he was looking at a low tire indicator on his dashboard at the time of the crash.

The elderly man was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver did not suffer any injuries. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, according to police.
