Flint Man Dies in Garage Fire

Police in Flint are investigating a fatal garage fire that occurred New Year’s Day.

The fire was reported at a residence in the 2400 block of Kentucky Ave. around 3:10 p.m. Witnesses say a 59-year-old man told people there was a fire in his detached garage and went inside to retrieve a dog, though neither came out. Police say a wood stove was burning at the time and a large number of combustible materials were found in the garage.

The cause remains under investigation.
