Fire Forces Evacuation of Saginaw County Preschool

A preschool in Buena Vista was evacuated due to a fire Wednesday morning.

According to the Saginaw Intermediate School District, staff at Brunkow Preschool on 24th Street discovered smoke in the building as students were arriving around 7:45. All 9 students and 32 staff members that were present were able to safely leave the building and busses were rerouted to return children to their homes.

Firefighters with the Saginaw, Bridgeport, and Buena Vista Fire Departments responded, and the fire was extinguished by 9:30 a.m. According to investigators, the cause of the fire was electrical.

The ISD says they’re working on plans for the 10 displaced classrooms, totalling 144 students.
