Fatal Motorcycle Crash On Mackinac Bridge

 A 78-year-old Cheboygan man died in a motorcycle crash on the Mackinac Bridge about 10:30am on Saturday.

According to Michigan State Police St. Ignace post, the Cheboygan man was traveling northbound across the bridge when he crossed the center lane divider and hit an on-coming pickup truck.

The motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the pick-up truck was a 39-year-old man from Newberry. The Newberry man and his passengers received minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

The crashed delayed traffic on the Mackinac Bridge for at least five hour before reopening late Saturday afternoon.

The crash is still under investigation but alcohol and speed are not believed to be factors in the crash.

Multiple departments assisted the troopers including Mackinaw City Fire Department, Mackinac City Police, and Emmet County EMS and Mackinac Bridge Authority.

The name of the motorcycle driver has not been released.

Hundreds of motorcycle riders participated in a weekend rally in Mackinaw City.
