What was originally suspected as a robbery in Bad Axe has turned to embezzlement charges for two women.

The Huron County prosecutors office issued the charges against 37-year-old Krista Cranston and 33-year-old Kayla Orchard for stealing money from the Advance America Cash Advance store October 23. Security footage from that date showed a person with an umbrella and a face covering demanding money from a clerk at the store.

An investigation led police to the two women, who were employees of the business. They turned themselves into police after being contacted by authorities. They are both charged with embezzlement of more than $50,000 and false report of a felony, facing up to 15 years in prison. Both women have posted bond.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 22.
