Elderly Man Found Dead In Snow Near Disabled Car

Saturday morning just before 08:00, Huron Central Dispatch received a call from a local Port Austin man reporting he found an individual deceased in a parking area near the Port Austin Harbor. The man was totally covered with snow and it appeared that he had gotten his car hung up on a rock.  The car which was still running and in gear with its wheels spinning was about 75 feet from where the man was found. Central Huron Ambulance North was then dispatched and arrived to find that the deceased had been dead for some time. Huon County deputies and Sheriff Kelly Hanson responded, as well as a Huron County Medical Examiner Investigator. It was determined that the victim from Franklin Michigan had gotten hung up on a stone at the turn around and apparently got out of his car. It is speculated at this time that he had a medical emergency and collapsed. There were no tracks anywhere nearby which indicates this incident had to of happened before it started to snow which was around 03:30 Saturday morning. There were no indications that foul play has taken place. An autopsy has been ordered and arrangements are being made.  The victim’s name is being withheld due to notification of next to kin still taking place.
