D-Day Remembered In New Michigan Heroes Museum Exhibit

Frankenmuth’s Michigan Heroes Museum marked the 75th anniversary of D-Day Thursday, June 6 with the opening of a new exhibit about Army Colonel and Grand Rapids native Ralph Hauenstein.
Museum Collections Manager John Augur says Hauenstein reported directly to Allied Supreme Commander General Dwight Eisenhower on intelligence. Augur added Hauenstein played a critical role deceiving the Germans into thinking the main invasion would be other than at Normandy.
Augur noted about 2,500 Americans died on the first day alone with perhaps two to three times that number wounded in a display of courage and sacrifice that ultimately led to final victory.
