Community Members Call for Saginaw County Commissioner to Resign over Social Media Post

There are calls for a member of the Saginaw County Board of Commissioners to resign after a social media post aimed at a newly-elected Saginaw Township Trustee.

22-year-old Amaya Bradley was elected to the Board of Trustees as a Democrat during the November 5th election. Last week, 70-year-old Republican Saginaw County Commissioner Rich Spitzer shared a post from a Facebook user named Amaya Bradley, showing possibly suggestive images of a woman. Spitzer’s post included text pointed at the newly-elected trustee, but the woman in the photos is not the same Amaya Bradley. Spitzer removed the post and issued an apology after realizing that they were not the same person.

Still, allegations of racism and misogyny have led to calls for his resignation. On Monday, Saginaw County Commissioner Lisa Coney, a Democrat, spoke at a Township Board of Trustees meeting to that end, and the NAACP Saginaw Branch President Terry Pruitt issued a statement calling for Spitzer to at least meet with Bradley and other female officials and minorities.

Spitzer has thus far denied any accusations of racism or misogyny, and has said he does not plan to resign.
