Coast Guard Boat Hits Bouy, Spills Fuel

No injuries were reported after a Coast Guard vessel hit a bouy on the Saginaw Bay Thursday, May 5.

The six member crew out of Station Saginaw River were out on a training mission around 10:30 p.m. about 10 miles from shore when the boat hit Navigation Buoy 6, rupturing a fuel tank and leaving the boat stranded. Officials say about 400 gallons of diesel fuel leaked into the bay. It’s unclear what clean up measures were employed. A Coast Guard vessel from Station Tawas Bay towed the boat back to base.

The crash is under investigation.
