Caro Man Charged In Crash that Injured Tuscola County Deputy
A man accused of hitting a Tuscola County sheriff’s deputy with his vehicle is charged with drunk driving.
According to police, Deputy Thomas Peterson and another deputy conducted a traffic stop involving two pickup trucks on M-24 Friday night around 7:45 when a north bound vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed slammed into both deputies’ patrol cars before striking Peterson, sending him flying over the stopped trucks. Peterson suffered fractures to his ankle and his leg along with other injuries, according to police. The vehicle was driven by 54-year-old Peter O’Brien of Caro.
O’Brien is charged with three felonies, including operating while intoxicated third offense, operating while intoxicated causing serious injury and failing to use due care when passing stationary emergency vehicle causing injury to emergency personnel. He is being held on a $350,000 bond.
