A Saginaw County man was recently arrested on animal cruelty charges.

Police say over the course of several months, 60-year-old Daniel Montrel, Jr. of Buena Vista Township brought a number of puppies to the Saginaw County Animal Care and Control Center. Each of the puppies suffered severe injuries which officials say were consistent with dog attacks. After Montrel brought a third puppy in for treatment, police began an investigation. They found more injured puppies living in what is described as deplorable conditions.

Buena Vista police found seven puppies and three adult dogs in all and believe a male adult dog was responsible for the attacks on the pups.

Montrel is charged with animal cruelty of ten dogs. A preliminary hearing is pending.
