Blade of Glory: Heritage High School Students Champion Safe Driving with Art
Students of Heritage High School, located in Saginaw showcased its artistic talent as part of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) annual Paint the Plow project. This initiative invites students to decorate snowplow blades with designs that promote safe driving and raise awareness for the essential work of plow operators during Michigan’s winter months. This year’s safety message, “Go hands-free. Just drive. It’s the law,” highlights the legal prohibition against using electronic devices while driving in Michigan.
The school’s painted plow, titled “Blade of Glory,” not only reflects the creativity of Heritage High School students but also reinforces the importance of safe driving, aligning with Michigan’s goal of zero road fatalities. State Transportation Director Bradley C. Wieferich commended the students for their passion and creativity, noting that the project is a unique way to engage youth in community safety efforts.
The decorated plows will be visible along various state trunklines throughout the winter, serving as both functional vehicles and striking reminders of safe driving practices. With these initiatives, MDOT aims to ensure a safer winter for everyone on Michigan’s roads.
