Bay City Commissioner Sentenced to Jail Time

A Bay City Commissioner will serve jail time for domestic assault.

Andrea Burney was convicted of the charge in December for a March 2023 incident where she hit her own sister. Bay County Judge Mark Janer sentenced Burney to 21 days in jail with five days already served. She is to report to the jail Friday. Prosecutors say she has already violated her bond twice.

Burney will not lose her commission seat over the conviction as it is only a misdemeanor. However, the commission has censured her in the past year for making what they call inflammatory remarks about commission members.
