Attorney General Charges Saginaw County Woman With Elder Abuse

A woman from Saginaw has been charged with Elder Abuse.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s Health Care Fraud Division has charged 62-year-old Elizabeth Haines with one misdemeanor count of Assault and Battery in connection with an incident that took place while she worked as a nursing home aide at Samaritas Senior Living.

Nessel’s office alleges Haines aggressively and forcefully grabbed an elderly, wheelchair-bound resident, pinning her arms to her wheelchair and ignoring the woman’s requests to stop. The resident was allegedly left with bruises on her arms. Haines was arraigned in Saginaw County District Court Thursday, Juky 11 and released on a $7,500 bond.

Haines is the eighth person charged with elder abuse since Nessel launched an Elder Abuse Task Force in March. Nessel, Supreme Court Justices Richard Bernstein and Megan Cavanagh will be at the Bangor Township Hall from 10:00 – noon on Friday, July 26,  as part of a statewide Elder Abuse Listening Tour.
