78-Year-Old Saginaw Woman Killed in Crashes on I-75 Thursday

A 78-year-old Saginaw woman is dead after multiple on Southbound I-75 Thursday morning.

The crashes occurred near the exit to Dixie Highway around 6:00 a.m. According to Michigan State Police, the woman was the driver of a GMC Acadia that was stopped, possibly disabled, in the right lane of traffic when a 2012 Peterbilt semi truck driven by a 59-year-old man from Cadillac sideswiped the vehicle. The truck driver was uninjured and stopped shortly after the collision.

Police say moments later, the Acadia was struck by a second tractor-trailer driven by a 22-year-old Mount Pleasant man. This crash caused the Acadia to catch fire, according to police, and the woman could not be safely removed from the vehicle. She died of her injuries.

The driver of the second tractor trailer was uninjured. The crash is still under investigation.
