Tuesday 90’s Nostalgia Music Break–Jewel

As we reach the summer doldrums of the 2012 election season–and all of the other craziness happening in the world–this song seems quite appropriate today.

Why do some artists write their best stuff early in their careers, and then fail to ever recapture that magic?

Jewel’s Pieces of You released in 1995 is still stunning to hear.  The simplicity, the lyrics, and her vocals make it one of the best albums of the 90’s.

She was never able to repeat that success, though.  Spirit had some bright spots, indeed, but it was signaling a drastic change in Jewel’s sound and image that seemed too… polished.

Such is life, I suppose.
