Kochville Township Party Shooting Injures Five People

Saginaw County Sheriff deputies say five people suffered minor injuries after gunfire erupted at a party in a Kochville Township apartment complex. All the victims were released from the emergency rooms after being treated.

Detectives said none of the injured were SVSU students. There is an unconfirmed report of a sixth victim, but that person has not shown up at any area hospital or contacted police.

The shooting happened just before 2:00 Sunday morning in the Campus Village Apartments, 2207 Pierce Road, across the road from the Saginaw Valley State University campus. There are reports of as many as 1,000 people attending the party in a courtyard between two buildings.

Some SVSU students may live in the complex but it is not owned by the university or on the Kochville Township campus. Sheriff Bill Federspiel says there was one suspect. He is a black man, in his early 20’s, with orange or blonde tipped dread locks in his hair. The suspect was wearing dark clothing.

The Crime Stoppers offers a cash reward up to $1,000 for an anonymous tip leading to the suspect’s arrest. The tip line is 1-800-422-JAIL (5245). The university has set up a special telephone number (989) 964-4348 for concerned students or parents to call for information.
